Cross
Stitch
All cross-stitch kits contain plain fabric and a chart.
It is a good idea to photocopy and enlarge the chart – you
are allowed to do this for your own use only – and colour
in with pencil as you go along. (If you use pen, felt tip or highlighter,
you can’t rub it out if you make a mistake) Always start
in the middle of the chart and work your way outwards. If the
stitching is in the centre of the fabric then you know you have
enough spare on each side for framing.
Cross-stitch ISN’T difficult although a lot of people panic
at the sight of blank fabric.
Start off with a small design worked on Aida – Serendipity’s
range of Carolyn’s flowers www.solocrafts.com
are ideal - and work your way up. You will soon become addicted.
We stock kits by the following companies among others, Anchor,
DMC, Moira Blackburn samples, Craft Collection, Decorative Textiles,
Derwentwate Designs, Designer Stitches, Jane Greenoff, Classic
Embroidery, Heritage, Needlepoise, Textile Heritage and Marion
Thorpe’s National Trust collection. |

Classic Embroidery and Heritage do county maps including Dorset.
Landmark supply us with a kit of Sherborne abbey.
If a kit has evenweave or linen in it and you prefer to work on
Aida (or vice versa) please let us know and we will change it
for you, but please bear in mind that some designs must be worked
on evenweave because of the stitches used. |
